Beauty is not an exact science but according to some Plastic Surgeons there is a specific proportion system that the “ideal” face has. With regards to the “ideal” chin formula, if you take a photo of yourself (from the side) and draw a line from the most prominent part of the brow (between the eyebrows) to your chin it should be a vertical line. If this confirms your suspicions that you chin is ‘weak’ or underdeveloped, then chin augmentation with soft tissue dermal fillers may help to strengthen the appearance of a receding chin and restore balance to you face. See Dermal Fillers for more information.
Chin Creases and Dimpling
The mentalis muscle is located on the front of the chin and in some people it causes the overlying skin to wrinkle and dimple when they talk, smile or eat. At The Laser and Skin Clinic we can use Anti-Wrinkle Injections to relax this muscle causing it to lie flatter resulting in reduced chin creases and smoother skin over the chin area. For more established horizontal chin creases dermal fillers can be used to lift and smooth the skin from beneath resulting in smoother skin and a smoother chin. See Anti-Wrinkle Injections for more information.
Time and gravity results in the sagging of the muscle, skin and fat and ultimately the formation of jowls and the prejowl sulcus (the depressed area directly in front of the jowl on either side of the chin). Whilst the ultimate and probably most effective treatment is facelift surgery there are less invasive alternatives available.
Advanced dermal filler techniques are used to fill the sunken prejowl sulcus area. The fillers are typically placed in the deep dermis below the skin in the recessed area between the jowl and the chin. This procedure can restore a natural, straighter contour from cheek to chin. We can also perform a liquid face lift to lift jaw line, jowls, and cheek area in one session. To improve the appearance of sagging jowls we also recommend Reaction Skin Tightening and Silhouette Thread Lift treatment.
Jaw Line Contouring
The square jaw can actually look good on some men. But it’s a different matter if it’s the demure feminine jaw line that you are looking for. The squarer appearance of the face is generally due to an increase in the size of the masseter (jaw line) muscles that results in a widening of the jaw line. In some cases, this can be a genetic trait or it can be due to bruxism, a condition characterised by teeth grinding and excessive clenching of the jaw.
With advanced techniques and specialised use of Anti-Wrinkle Injections, the strength and size of the masseter muscle can be reduced giving a softer angle at the jaw, a less square jaw and a more youthful oval face. The procedure has no downtime and patients generally notice softening of the masseter muscle at one week and softening of the jaw line at around 6-8 weeks. To maintain the results six monthly treatments are normally recommended. See Anti-Wrinkle Injections for more information. Other options for Jawline Contouring include Silhouette Thread Lift treatment and Dermal Fillers.
