Age Spots
Age spots are also known as sunspots, liver spots, freckles, lentigos or lentigines.
Age Spots
Age spots are also known as sunspots, liver spots, freckles, lentigos or lentigines.
These lesions are flat, brown, or dark brown spots on sun-exposed skin. The pigment-producing cells in the skin (called melanocytes) are activated to produce more pigment (melanin) by ultraviolet rays.
Symptoms of Age Spots.
As people age, age spots most commonly appear on the backs of hands, forearms, neck, chest, and face. Sunspots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. Sunspots are usually tan to dark brown and vary in size. Some patients may only have a few, while others may have hundreds on their skin.
Our Approach.
At Laser + Skin Clinics, we believe prevention is key; therefore, wearing broad-spectrum SPF daily will prevent further age spots from appearing on the surface.
When treating any pigmentation on the face or body, we will assess the area to determine the best treatment for you. Establishing the exact depth and extent of each pigmented area can be challenging, so a combination of treatments may be required to achieve the best results. At Laser + Skin Clinics, many treatments are available for age spots. Often, a combination of treatments can provide the best solution.
- Laser Pigmentation Removal – treats individual spots on the face or body.
- TCA Chemical Peel – suitable for general sun damage on the face, body, hands, and larger areas.
- ActiveFX CO2 Ablative Laser – for any pigmentation, including deep and superficial.
