Lentigines
Lentigines, lentigos or sunspots are also known as age spots, liver spots, and freckles.
Skin pigmentation conditions are caused when the body produces too much or too little melanin. This results in Hyper/Hypo pigmentation, which is light or dark marks on the skin’s surface. Depending on the type and location of pigmentation, our skin specialist will recommend either laser or skin treatments combined with topical medical-grade products to achieve the best results.
Symptoms of Lentigines.
These lesions are flat, brown, or dark brown spots on sun-exposed skin. As people age, sunspots most commonly appear on the backs of hands, the forearms, the neck, the chest and face. Sunspots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. The pigment-producing cells in the skin (called melanocytes) are activated to produce more pigment (melanin) by ultraviolet rays. Prevention is critical; therefore, wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen every day will prevent further age spots appearing on the surface.
Our Approach.
There are many treatments available for Lentigines, such as:
- Laser Pigmentation Removal – These are individual spots on the face or body.
- TCA Chemical Peel – suitable for general sun damage on the face, body, hands, and larger areas.
- CO2 Ablative Laser – for any pigmentation, including deep and superficial.
When treating any pigmentation on the face or body, we will first assess the area to determine the best treatment for you. As it is difficult to establish the exact depth and extent of each pigmented area, a combination of treatments may be required to achieve the best results.
