Microneedling creates micro-point punctures in the skin. This is perceived by the body as damaged, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. Your skin normally assumes that scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles are repaired, but with micro-needling treatments, the skin is tricked into repairing itself and producing more collagen and elastin.
Medical microneedling is one of the most highly regarded treatments for all types of scarring, such as acne scars, wounds, and hypertrophic scarring. Depending on the type of scarring, we often recommend a combination of treatments to achieve the best results.
Visible results of skin rejuvenation are generally seen after just 6-8 weeks following the procedure and improve further over time. A course of 4-6 Medical Microneedling treatments is usually recommended to achieve optimum microneedling results; however, skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment. To improve the appearance of acne scarring, further treatments may be necessary, or a combination of Laser Light Therapy such as BBL Hero/Microneedling treatments can be beneficial.
The FDA has two categories for microneedling devices, and it is based on the size of the needle depth. The two categories are cosmetic and medical microneedling. Cosmetic microneedling is a depth of 0.3mm or less, whereas medical microneedling is anything above that depth.
