Frequently Asked Questions

Laser Hair Removal is one of the most frequently practiced treatments with both men and women that want to permanently reduce the appearance of unwanted or excessive facial or body hair.

Laser Hair Removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser which emits wavelengths of light to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair (melanin).

The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth. Laser hair removal is most effective for people who have light skin and dark hair. It typically takes several laser hair removal treatments to achieve a permanent reduction at regular intervals.

Cynosure Elite is a Medical Laser Hair Removal Device. It is the most comprehensive laser hair removal system available today. Since it’s designed for all skin types, you can treat the broadest range of clients. With both Alexandrite 755 nm wavelength & Nd:Yag 1064 all skin types can be treated safely.

  • Laser hair removal with Cynosure Elite is safe, effective and fast.
  • The 755-nm wavelength has high melanin absorption characteristics and proven long-term results for permanent hair reduction.
  • The high-powered 1064-nm Nd:YAG is the safest wavelength for permanent hair reduction on darker skin types and tanned skin.
  • The Elite delivers high fluence from large spot sizes-ensuring deeper penetration, faster treatment sessions and optimal results.

Hair is made up of a shaft and a root. The shaft is the hair you see on your skin. At the lower end of the root is a swelling called the hair bulb and this is surrounded by a socket called a hair follicle. The hair grows upwards from the root and emerges from the skin. Each follicle has a growth phase where the hair falls out. In this way, hair are continually grown, shed and replaced throughout and individual’s life, at any one time, different hairs will be at a different stage of this growth cycle.

No. The amount and distribution of body hair is largely determined genetically. This may vary according to racial or familial characteristics.

Hirsutism means excessive hair growth. This can be due to racial, familial characteristics as mentioned below and also due to some medical conditions.

Hirsutism can occur for a number of reasons:

  • Excess production of male-type hormones (androgen)
  • Increased sensitivity of the hair follicles to androgen stimulation
  • Taking certain drugs, steroids and androgens (for body building)
  • Contraceptive pill
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Hereditary factors
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

We are unable to give a guarantee however we estimate an 80% permanent reduction after a course of 6 treatments and recommended intervals. Factors which can impact how successful results are include: hair colour, hair texture, skin colour, treatment intervals, not adhering to treatment protocols, hormonal imbalances, medical history can all interfere with outcomes. Unfortunately, areas influenced by hormones i.e. facial, neck, navel, and nipples cannot be given the same guarantee as it is out of our control. Treatment of these areas is very successful in reducing hair growth but new hairs may be stimulated to grow in the future.

Based on research to achieve the desired reduction an average of 6 treatments at regular intervals (approx. every 6 weeks) is recommended. Hair grows in cycles – Anagin (growing phase), Catogen (resting phase), and Telogen (shedding stage). To achieve permanent results the hairs must be in the growing stage for the energy to reach the hair root.

Again we know from research, approx. 15% of anagin hairs are in the growing stage at the time of treatment therefore we can achieve 80% reduction after a course of six treatments.

Depending on the size and area being treated, the duration of the treatment varies for each client. Safety eyewear is worn to protect the eyes during the procedure from the laser light. Most clients only experience minimal discomfort during treatment. Throughout your treatment you will have cool air applied to the area being treated.

Clients can return to work or resume their normal activities immediately following treatment. The area may become slightly swollen and red after treatment and may take a few hours or days to settle down again depending on the area treated and skin sensitivity.

Yes, we have suitable lasers for lighter and darker skin types. All clients will be required to attend for a patch test prior to commencing a course of laser to access suitability.
