How does the treatment work?

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is a chemical solution that is applied to the skin. The solution causes the layer of skin to separate and peel off. The new regenerated skin underneath is usually smoother, less wrinkled and more even in both tone and colour.

A course of 4 TCA Chemical Peel treatments are recommended at 2-4 week intervals for optimum results.

TCA Chemical Peel does not require a pre-treatment product program, however it can beneficial to exfoliate the skin using a Glycolic or Salicylic cleanser 2-4 weeks prior to your treatment to achieve better penetration of active ingredients and optimise treatment results.

Aftercare products are compulsory post treatment to avoid any adverse reactions. This will include a cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen to be used daily after your peel and throughout your skincare program. This will be discussed in detail at your consultation.

Clients will experience moderate peeling from day 3 to day 6. It may be advisable to take some time off during the recovery period. Mineral makeup can be worn.

You may experience a warm/tingling sensation when the peel solution is initially applied which will subside within a few minutes.

As this is a medium depth medical skin peel it must be performed by a medical practitioner.

As with any procedure, not everyone is a candidate for the TCA peel. At your consultation you will be assessed to your suitability to have a TCA skin peel.

All products have a potential for allergic reactions. It is important that you inform the nurse of any allergies they may have. Transient reactions may include redness to the skin, itchiness, dryness and in some cases swelling.  It is common for most patients to experience transient hyperpigmentation. This will settle during the course of treatments and with use of the appropriate treatment creams and sun protection (SPF30+). Although very rare, there may be in some cases risk of superficial blistering, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation.
