Precision CO2 Laser Resurfacing: Sharing My Experience at the Scottish Skin & Laser Summit
I was delighted to be invited to Edinburgh recently as a guest speaker at the Cutera Collective Scottish Skin & Laser Summit.
Having worked with lasers for over 16 years, it’s an area of aesthetics I’m genuinely passionate about. I’ve seen laser technology evolve enormously during that time, but for me the fundamentals have always remained the same. Choosing the right treatment for the right patient and delivering safe, effective results.
My talk in Edinburgh focused on precision CO2 laser resurfacing and, in particular, treating some of the more challenging areas of the face around the eyes, the perioral area and scarring.
Having worked with laser treatments for over 16 years, I really enjoyed being able to share not only my knowledge of CO2 resurfacing, but also the practical experience that comes from treating patients day to day. We talked about how I approach these more complex areas in practice, the considerations that go into treatment planning, and why precision and understanding the skin are so important when working with CO2.
CO2 laser resurfacing can be a fantastic treatment for concerns such as fine lines, hooded eyes , skin texture and certain types of scarring, but it isn’t simply about having the technology. Experience, careful patient selection and an individual approach to treatment and aftercare are equally important.
Sharing knowledge and learning from colleagues
For me, the practical side is such an important part of events like the Scottish Skin & Laser Summit. It’s not just about presenting the technology, but sharing what we’ve learned through experience and having open conversations with other professionals working in the industry.
One of the things I enjoy most is meeting colleagues who are equally passionate about skin and laser treatments. It gives us the opportunity to talk about what we’re seeing in our own clinics, share different approaches and learn from each other.
There were some great conversations throughout the day, including around AviClear and the evolving role of laser and energy based treatments in managing acne. Even after 16 years of working with lasers, I’m still learning and that’s part of what keeps this area so interesting for me.
16 years of laser experience - and still passionate about it.
Technology will continue to evolve and there will always be something new to learn, but my approach remains very much the same: treatments should be carefully considered, appropriate for the individual and focused on achieving safe, effective results.
It was a real pleasure to share some of my own knowledge and practical experience with colleagues in Edinburgh and to come home with plenty of interesting conversations and ideas of my own.
A big thank you to the Cutera Collective for inviting me to be part of the Scottish Skin & Laser Summit.
