Cellulite & Stretch Marks
Stretch marks and cellulite are common changes in the appearance and texture of the skin and can affect people of all ages and body types. Although they are different concerns, both involve changes within the deeper structure of the skin and connective tissue.
Stretch marks, also known as striae, develop when the skin stretches or changes more quickly than its underlying collagen and elastin network can adapt. They commonly occur during pregnancy, puberty, weight change or periods of rapid muscle growth. New stretch marks may initially appear pink, red or purple before gradually becoming paler or silvery over time.
Cellulite causes a dimpled or uneven appearance, most commonly affecting the thighs, buttocks and abdomen. It occurs due to the relationship between fat cells, connective tissue and the skin above them and may become more noticeable due to genetics, hormonal changes, ageing and changes in skin elasticity.
While neither concern can always be completely removed, treatments designed to stimulate collagen, remodel deeper tissue and improve skin quality can help soften their appearance and improve overall texture.
