BBL vs MOXI vs HALO: Which Skin Treatment Is Right for You?

BBL vs MOXI vs HALO: Which Skin Treatment Is Right for You?

BBL, MOXI and HALO are three of our most talked-about treatments — and we completely understand why clients mix them up. They can all improve the appearance of sun damage and help skin look fresher, but they do not work in exactly the same way.

The easiest way to think about them is this: BBL mainly targets colour, MOXI gives the skin a gentle refresh and HALO delivers more intensive correction across tone and texture.

Here is the simple version.

Choose BBL when redness or pigmentation is the main concern

BBL stands for BroadBand Light. Although people often call it "BBL laser", it is an advanced light treatment rather than a laser.

The light is selected to target visible pigment and vascular concerns within the skin. This makes BBL a popular option for sun spots, freckles, redness, rosacea, small facial vessels and general unevenness in tone.

Clients often describe wanting their skin to look clearer, brighter and less "mottled". If that sounds familiar — and texture is not your biggest concern — BBL may be a good place to start.

BBL is also used as part of a long-term skin-maintenance plan. The aim is not to make you look different; it is to improve the clarity and quality of the skin you already have.

Choose MOXI when you want a gentle refresh

MOXI is a non-ablative fractional laser. It creates tiny treatment zones in the skin to encourage renewal while leaving surrounding tissue intact.

We often recommend MOXI for early sun damage, uneven tone, mild pigmentation, visible pores, roughness and skin that simply looks tired. It is especially popular with clients who want a noticeable refresh but are not ready for a more intensive resurfacing treatment.

You might also hear MOXI described as a "prejuvenation" treatment. In plain English, that means it can be used to maintain skin quality and address early changes before they become more established. It is not only for younger skin, though; it can be a lovely option at many ages when the concern and desired downtime are a good match.

Choose HALO when tone and texture both need more correction

HALO is a hybrid fractional laser, meaning it combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths in the same treatment. One wavelength works closer to the surface while the other reaches deeper into the skin.

That makes HALO a strong option when you want to work on several concerns together, such as sun damage, pigmentation, fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scarring and uneven texture.

HALO is more intensive than a light MOXI treatment and usually involves more visible recovery. In return, it is designed for clients looking for a more significant resurfacing result without moving straight to traditional full-field resurfacing.

Can BBL and MOXI — or BBL and HALO — be combined?

Yes, sometimes they can. In fact, this is where having access to several technologies becomes really valuable.

BBL can focus on visible reds and browns, while a fractional laser addresses texture and skin renewal. Depending on your skin, we may recommend treatments in the same overall plan or stage them separately. More treatment is not automatically better; the timing, intensity and order all matter.

Still unsure? That is completely normal

You do not need to arrive at your consultation knowing which device you want. Your job is simply to tell us what bothers you, what result you would love and how much downtime realistically fits your life.

Our job is to assess your skin and guide you towards the most suitable option. At Laser + Skin Clinics, we have been treating skin since 2004 and offer an extensive range of laser and light technologies across Dublin City, Malahide, Athlone and Mullingar. That means your recommendation is based on your concern — not on whichever machine happens to be available.
